Our Missionaries - The Martins
Southern California natives and graduates of Biola University, Bryan and Jacinda Martin arrived on the Philippines field in December of 2002. After studying Tagalog for 1 1/2 years, they were allocated to the island of Catanduanes to join a multi-cultural team doing pioneering church planting.
The highlight for Bryan and Jacinda has been teaching the Bible to those who have never held a Bible in their hands and the opportunity to be a part of such an incredible church planting team. "Working on a team is such an effective way to do church planting because my weaknesses are covered by my teammates strengths", said Jacinda. Also being first term missionaries and having experienced Filipino church planters as their team leaders and mentors has put them ahead of other church planting teams and has kept them from making as many cultural blunders!
Bryan and Jacinda have two girls who attend local schools. "We are passionate about being a part of the community and one of the best ways to do this is have our children in the school system here", said Bryan. This strategy has helped the Martins to become more "insiders" in their community and this also means that their children are learning the local languages at a much faster rate.
